Until we know better, our time is spent wrapped in the pursuit of more, better, different, new – a hunger fed by the people around us, what we see on TV, the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
We grasp for this expectant fortune of tomorrow. We’re told it can save us.
As we reach and strive, we move our focus from NOW to “out there,” at the expense of our happiness today.
Where are you regularly postponing your happiness today until some later date?
We have years of practice pushing ourselves into to tomorrow. So much practice that it’s pretty automatic, and we may not see that we have an option.
But we do!
We can opt for no pressure. Opt to take things as they come instead of anticipating the worst.
But it takes practice to learn another way of being. It takes practice to allow a feeling of balance to arrive from within. The practice of meditation.
Quick Meditation Tip
Allow your meditation practice to inform the rest of your day. When sitting in the car, return to the breath. Sitting at the desk, return to the body. Each time we return to ourselves, we touch the present moment.
Quote From Adam
“Balance applies to us on cosmic, biological and personal levels – to our body, mind and emotions – reminding us that anything we do, we can overdo or underdo, and that if our internal pendulum swings to one side, it will inevitably swing to another.”
– Dan Millman
