When you meditate it is a good habit to use a timer with sound – both to keep you from wondering how long you’ve been meditating and checking the time every two minutes, but also to more easily commit to a set duration for your meditation session.
To do this you may simply use a timed alarm on your cell phone, or download an app which does it for you.
Another alternative is to use sound tracks with prerecorded alerts, which you can either listen to online or download and listen to on your mp3-device or burn to a CD.
These tracks/audio files normally come in the form of one or more starting sounds and closing sounds (most often “gong” sounds or tibetan singing bowls), to let you know when they start and end.
