Sacred Om Meditation Music
Did you know that the world was created by “om”?
Much like the greeting “Namaste”, we often come across the word “om” or “aum”. It is commonly used as a mantra (a word/phrase repeated verbally or in our mind) for meditation.
But do you know what the word “om” actually means?
One meaning of the word is (see this wikipedia article for more about it’s meaning) “that which is sounded out loudly”.
Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as sound “OM” (source).
So there you have it – the whole universe started with the word “om”.
Whether we believe in this or not, it does give “om” some extra mystery and flavor.
There is a lot of music featuring the word “om” being sung or chanted, especially in hinduism and in the new age genre.
Shannon Terry TV recently published this great piece of “om” music, that I’d like you to have a listen to. I find it very relaxing and perfect to set the stage before my meditation session.
Have a listen, and please let us know in a comment what you think about “om” and the video.
